Hello supporters and fans of the Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorus!
I am thrilled to announce the 2019-2020 season of the Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorus! This is our most ambitious season yet, with more concerts, more outreach, and more collaborations than ever before. We have three concerts at the historic Bijou Theatre in downtown Knoxville, beginning in October with “I Sing Out.” We celebrate National Coming Out Day and welcome Tony-Award winner Levi Kreis, who grew up right here in East Tennessee. Levi will perform many well-known Broadway favorites and share his personal story of coming out, moving to New York City, and becoming a Broadway star. KGMC will join him throughout night. All proceeds will benefit local youth LGBTQ+ organizations.
The season continues in December with “Naughty or Nice?” as we journey through traditional songs of the holiday season with a few unexpected twists along the way. KGMC’s very own Marge Williams will be back to guide us and continue her quest to find those tasty holiday cakes!
In May we present a very special concert, “In The Living Years.” The show reminds us to live in the moment and not to dwell on regret or things we cannot change. We have commissioned four new compositions which will receive their world premier. In July, we will take the show to Minneapolis to perform it at the Gay and Lesbian Association (GALA) of Choruses Festival. This incredible event happens every four years and brings together over 200 choruses from across the nation. KGMC is honored to be one of only eight choruses selected to present a featured concert at the GALA Festival.
In addition to our concerts, we continue our popular annual events, beginning with “A Little Night Music: Your Night Onstage!” in September. This is your chance to experience the spotlight on the World’s Fair Park Amphitheatre Stage! (Don’t worry, no singing or dancing is required.) Join us for an elegant night of fine dining, drinks, and entertainment. In February, pull out your most fabulous costume for “Lovers Masquerade.” This year, our annual cabaret will be a masquerade ball filled with mystery and excitement. Start planning now to win the prize for best mask. Do not miss either of these fabulous nights!
Throughout the season you can hear us perform during Knoxville First Fridays at the Arts Emporium in downtown Knoxville, home to the KGMC office at 100 S Gay Street. We will also appear at KnoxPride, TriPride, and Blount Pride – as well as in support of many other local organizations.
I hope you will join us for the 2019-2020 concert season. The chorus is truly a community effort, and your support makes it all possible. I invite you to consider becoming a business sponsor or individual donor to make the music happen. You can learn more at our website, www.KnoxGMC.org
